Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and Baptist Health Care provide sports medicine coverage to schools throughout the Northwest Florida region at no cost to the schools or school districts through their nearly 50 certified athletic trainers. Besides being on the field at sporting events, Andrews Institute athletic trainers also work in physical rehabilitation settings at Andrews Institute Rehabilitation and in physician practices at Andrews Institute and other Baptist locations.

Certified athletic trainers provide the following services through the Andrews Institute Sports Medicine Outreach program:

· Education and instruction to empower student-athletes, coaches, parents and the Panhandle community to reduce injury risk and promote safe, healthy and enjoyable participation in sports as well as life

· Free annual pre-participation physical exams that include a height, weight, and vision assessment, an orthopaedic musculoskeletal exam, a physician’s exam and a heart exam

· Sports medicine coverage for all 23 public high schools in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties

· Sports medicine coverage for Pensacola Christian College, Pensacola Christian Academy and Chipola College

· 24-hour on-call access, daily medical coverage, and injury evaluations and management for all partner schools

· A continuum for concussion care including preseason concussion baseline testing, in-game concussion evaluation and post-concussion management and rehabilitation

· Student-Athlete Injury Clinic during the fall for athletes

· Service to the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida as an Official Medical Services Provider for the USTA National Campus

In March, we celebrate and honor athletic trainers. Thank you to the Andrews Institute athletic trainer team members for support on and off the field, in physician practices and in the physical rehabilitation settings. With their help, our community and student athletes can safely play and enjoy sports and activities.
