History

In 2007, Baptist Health Care in Pensacola opened a world-class institute for orthopaedics and sports medicine in northwest Florida, with the leadership and reputation of internationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon James R. Andrews, M.D. The creation of the Andrews Institute has secured northwest Florida as a cradle for musculoskeletal treatments and research.

Redundant/ Covered aboveThe Institute is located on property contiguous to the Gulf Breeze Hospital in Gulf Breeze, Santa Rosa County. Gulf Breeze Hospital has the distinction of leading the nation in patient satisfaction for more than nine consecutive years. The Andrews Institute has attracted national and international attention to the area for its superior medical care in orthopaedics and research, while contributing to the local economy.

The development of the Institute created 150 new jobs, with nearly $10 million in wages, in the highly educated and technical fields of musculoskeletal research and health care. The combined impact of the patient clientele and employment opportunities related to the Institute further enhances northwest Florida’s ability to create and maintain an environment for positive growth while creating a reputation for world class medical care.

ANDREWS INSTITUTE TIMELINE

  • 2020 - Andrews Institute becomes the official provider of Athletic Training Services for University of West Florida Athletics
  • 2019 - Andrews Institute Ft. Walton Beach opened
  • 2018 - Andrews Institute – Navarre opened
  • 2017 – Andrews Institute Rehabilitation opened clinic at Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA in Downtown Pensacola.
  • 2017 – Sports medicine contracted coverage expanded to include all Okaloosa County public high schools in January.
  • 2017 – Andrews Institute physicians began seeing patients at Baptist Medical Park-Airport in March.
  • 2016 – Andrews Institute Regenerative Medicine Center opened with a $350,000 donation from the city of Gulf Breeze.
  • 2016 – Andrews Institute and Nemours Children’s Health System selected as Official Medical Services Providers for the United States Tennis Association National Campus in May.
  • 2016 – Sports medicine contracted coverage began for all Walton County public high schools in the fall.
  • 2015 – Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine named official medical partner for University of West Florida Athletics.
  • 2015 – Sports medicine contracted coverage began for Chipola College.
  • 2015 – The Alfred G. Stubblefield Research & Education Building is dedicated to honor Al Stubblefield and his tireless effort to improve the quality of life in communities locally and around the country.
  • 2014 – Sports medicine contracted coverage expanded to include the northern Okaloosa County public high schools.
  • 2012 – The Sports Medicine Mobile Center is put into circulation for use at community events.
  • 2011 – Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine selected as the official medical provider for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in December.
  • 2010 – Andrews Institute affiliated physicians began seeing patients at Baptist Medical Park-Nine Mile and Baptist Medical Park-Navarre.
  • 2010 – James R. Andrews, M.D., earned Pace Award for his contribution to health in the community through the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.
  • 2010 – Gulf Breeze city leaders allocated $500,000 to initially fund the Andrews Institute Eagle Fund Continuum Project.
  • 2007 – James R. Andrews, M.D. performed his inaugural surgery in the Andrews Institute Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) at Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine on Friday, March 9.
  • 2007 – The 126,535 square foot building is completed in Gulf Breeze, Florida in April.
  • 2007 – Sports Medicine Outreach began affiliation with Andrews Institute and continued contracted coverage for Escambia and Santa Rosa county public high schools.
  • 2007 – EXOS (formerly Athletes’ Performance) opened its fourth facility as part of the Andrews Institute campus.
  • 2004 – A press conference was held on November 19 at Gulf Breeze Hospital to announce the opening of a world-class clinic in Gulf Breeze, Florida. James R. Andrews, M.D., Alfred Stubblefield, and Dick Fulford announce plans to build Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.
